Transport Safety and Social Responsibility
Every year there are around 1.2million road related deaths across the developing world.
The World Health Organisation has stated that road related deaths are the ninth biggest killer around the world and, by 2020, will rise to be the world's third biggest killer.
The victims of road related accidents tend to be primarily males aged between 20 and 45 years of age. This is the most economically active group, who often are the main income earners supporting their families.
With road deaths in developing countries on the increase, through poor quality roads, traffic growth, poor driver tuition or cultural differences, the impact on local economies will become more severe, with detrimental impacts on poverty alleviation.
