Minerals, Governance and Policy
The exploitation of mineral resources has often been associated with conflict, civil strife and corruption.
This, however, does not need to be the norm. Mineral exploitation can be a major driver of growth and poverty reduction and has greatly increased the economic capacity of many countries.
It is therefore important to ensure that mineral exploration is conducted in an environment, which promotes good governance, and where mineral policy is centred round transparency, where human rights are protected and environmental and social safeguards put in place.
