Top 10 Takeaways from WBM 10
1.The development of next generation advanced biofuels technologies is on course to begin mass, commercial scale deployment in 2012
2.10-25% of global agricultural wastes alone can provide a sustainable source of 12% of the global road transport fuels market
3.Energy crops innovation is continuing to develop additional sources of sustainable biofuels
4.Forestry resources and advanced BtL technologies are also coming onstream to provide another source of sustainable biofuels
5.Sustainable biofuels could grow beyond the EU and US mandated % mixes by 2012 as they achieve oil parity and the return to biofuels undercutting mineral oil is a very real scenario
6.iLUC debate is becoming a global sustainable land resource management issue and biofuels will lead the development of a system that will encompass ALL competing demands on land resource: timber, food, biodiversity and forestry protection.
7.Biofuels can be the standard bearer leading both to a solution to the iLUC debate, deforestation and in reducing emissions from food agriculture
8.The rapid rise of the aviation sector as a new customer was confirmed with the keynote address of KLM plus the participation of Boeing, Airbus, British Airways, SAS, Lufthansa, IATA etc.
9.Algal fuels producers they need to derive additional revenue sources from other products as they push the cost of algal fuels downwards
10.Innovation is occurring across huge amounts of waste feedstocks: black liquor, tallow, UCO and competitive new fuel sources are all over the horizon

Understand the future of Africa's carbon markets
Despite its huge potential, Africa has not benefitted greatly from the carbon market. If the continent is to live up to its promise, become a significant player in the global carbon market and take advantage of the financial and developmental opportunities on offer, it is imperative that the pace of project investment and development is increased substantially.
Carbon Markets & Climate Finance Africa will aid in the achievement of this goal by bringing the key market players together to examine the issues key to the successful creation, implementation and exploitation of carbon projects in Africa.
Every link in Africa's Carbon Value Chain will be present with the aim of reducing the barriers facing project creation, from the creation of a positive legislative and regulatory environment to new means of attracting private investment.
Scheduled for the month after COP 16, Carbon Markets & Climate Finance Africa 2011 is the first opportunity for the stakeholders in Africa's carbon future to digest the news from Cancun and take action to put Africa at the heart of the global carbon market.

Policy, investment and new project opportunities throughout Asia
The world-renowned GeoPower series of conferences has already welcomed hundreds of delegates to its flagship events, GeoPower Europe and GeoPower Americas. Green Power Conferences is now proud to present GeoPower Asia 2010. This ground-breaking summit will explore the opportunities and challenges for greater international participation in developing commercial geothermal power projects in the Philippines, Indonesia and other countries on the Pacific Ring of Fire.
The Philippines is the second largest producer of geothermal energy in the world, with installed capacity of 1,978 MW in 2008. The government has set a target of adding 1,200MW new capacity in the next 10 years, creating huge opportunities for international developers and investors.
GeoPower Asia 2010 will showcase the vast potential of the region, demonstrate the high level of geothermal skills and technology held by regional geothermal energy companies, and bring together international geothermal experts and investors to forge new partnerships for the pursuit of large-scale geothermal power production. Speakers will debate current policy at a country, regional and global level, and address the key challenges facing geothermal development, including exploration risk, power pricing and project finance.

It is now widely accepted that the ongoing urbanisation process is unstoppable, irreversible, and is taking place largely in the developing world. Cities in the developing world, therefore, hold the key to sustainable development of our planet.
The Nairobi 2010 Congress of ISOCARP, focusing on the theme 'Sustainable City/ Developing World' takes its departure from the aforementioned premise. Planning strategies for sustainable development in cities of the global south will be discussed according to the type of intervention through which they can be best addressed, for example, urban policy, urban form and design, urban planning instruments, urban governance, and urban financing. While urban development/spatial planning is a central area of focus in the first four, the fifth workshop will lay greater emphasis on the implementation dimension, particularly issues of municipal finance and infrastructure financing mechanisms.

IntroductionFollowing the success of last year's event, Green Power Conferences are pleased to announce that the 2nd international Carbon Markets Mexico & Central America networking conference will take place in Mexico City. In 2009 this event was attended by over 100 participants from 14 countries.
The event will create a networking platform for the Mexican and Central American carbon market industry, policy makers and potential investors to examine growth strategies for the market as well as investment options and regional policy movements.
In 2009 Mexico ranked fourth in the world for the number of registered CDM projects and fifth in the world in Certified Emission Reductions (CERs). Mexico has also identified over 100 larger-scale projects in the operating segments of PEMEX and CFE. In Central America Honduras and Guatemala lead the take-up of CDM, followed by Panama, Costa Rica and El Salvador. The region is ideally positioned to benefit from policy developments and to implement more projects.
Delegates will learn from best practice case studies from both mature and emerging markets and gain a clear understanding of the current regulatory framework, investment criteria, project start up requirements, CER credit production optimization and the progress of the region in preparation for COP16.
